Learn from Distinguished History Faculty
ALYSSA LOPEZ, Ph.D.
Dr. Lopez earned her doctorate from Michigan State University and is a historian of African American history with a particular interest in cultural activism and Black film history. She is currently working on a book entitled Reel Freedom: Black Film Culture in Early Twentieth Century New York City.
OSAMA SIDDIQUI, Ph.D.
Dr. Siddiqui earned his doctorate from Cornell University and is a historian of the British Empire in India, with a particular interest in intellectual history, the history of ideas, and the history of economic thought. He is the only faculty member in Rhode Island to receive a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for his book, A Science of Society: Economic Thought in Colonial India.
STEVEN SMITH, Ph.D.
Dr. Smith earned his doctorate from the University of Missouri and is a historian of Revolutionary and early National America with research and teaching interests in media, politics, and urban history. His first book, An Empire of Print, was commended as “an important contribution to the history of the book and literacy in America” by Howard B. Rock of the American Historical Review.
